the first call i got when i got back to work after new years was from george in gardena. hes the manager there, like i am here. he started prodding….about me and boys.
he did the whole “why dont you have a boyfriend?” “what are you looking for in someone?” “why dont you date more often?”
same answers as always…”i dont know.” “personality, kindness, attraction.” “im pretty unapproachable and im really focused.”
then he decided that his goal for the year was to find someone for me. to make sure i was happy with someone else in my life.
of course i assured him that i am happy with myself and happy with my life.
nonetheless.
this morning, george rang again.
after some real work talk, he prodded again “so, anything new in the boy area of life?”
me” well, i did go on a date within the last week.”
george: “aw patricia. this is great. now, let me prepare you so this actually has a chance to work.”
(this is exactly the reason the ‘date’ is pretty unknown around my parts..ie family and friends)
he continued in the most serious of tones and with a bit of that accent he picked up while living in texas, “now then patricia. you must remember to be approachable and receptive. people are different. dont start looking for all the reasons to throw him out. just go with it. give it six months before making any definite decisions. some people are a certain way and do or dont do certain things because of their past and their childhood. but given the opportunity and the timing, that changes. six months will give you a good reading on that. and patricia?”
me: “yes.”
george: “god bless you, you have a lot of really good opinions. thats the honest truth. youre intelligent and have a lot of life expereience. now then, you dont need to give them all to him right away. remember the frog in the pot senario. if you start with boiling water, he’ll just out. if you bring the frog to a boil, youll have frog legs for dinner. and remember. there is such a thing as ‘inside words’. these are the words we keep in our heads, not out mouths. got it!”
me: “oh my gosh george. thats a lot. but i think i got it all.”
george: “ok, im expecting a good report soon.”
**i’m hoping to be able to give him one.
